Now to address the elephant in the room. Baldr Sky was an 18+ release in Japan an never had an All Age release, but so far Sekai Project hasn't said anything about an 18+ release or a patch so for now I think it is unlikely that we get those.
If this changes I am going to update this post.EDIT: There wont be an official 18+ release or an official uncensor patch for Baldr Sky.The details and the scope of the changes can be read here:There is still a chance that we can get an unofficial uncensor patch, and indeed there has been an announcement for this which can be read. But we have to wait and see if it actually happens.Unofficial Patch is already out:Having said that I am pretty hyped about Baldr Sky since it is on of those VNs that have always been talked about and been highly praised by those that read the Japanese version. The cyberpunk setting seems like something I would really enjoy and it's pretty rare in the VN space, so I am going to buy whether it gets an 18+ release or not.Edited December 20, 2019 by Formlose Gestalt. Is this meant to be played with a controller or kbm? It's easier with a controller.
To be honest, I recall buying a controller for it because of how it made my fingers stiff after a while. Also, it is hard to do diagonals without a thumbstick.Edit: The gameplay is actually fairly enjoyable once you get a wider variety of weapons and finishers.

It is also fast-paced. However, you spend a pretty ridiculous amount of time fighting in the game, looking at it in retrospect. For early bosses, I was pretty dependent on the dual sub-machineguns, though. One of the earliest bosses moves way too fast for the close-range moves unless you have high gaming skills or are just obsessed with killing everything with melee attacks. About gameplay, well I tried Baldr Force and to tell the truth it's harder compared to Duel Savior. Apparently Sky gameplay here is the improvement of Force, so let's see if I can play it without difficulty later on.About the rumor in regard of censorship, to be honest the speculation out there is very annoying to me and to make it worse Sekai here rumored to didn't say anything in which it's widely speculated because that GIGA told Sekai to not say anything about it.
If GIGA told Sekai to censor Baldr Sky, then what I can say would be that they'll got same principle as Pulltop. That said, I think it might be come with 18+ version though if we look at mature content warning. For the comparison, I'll post several mature content quote from Sekai VNs that have 18+ version along with Baldr Sky.Baldr Sky. This is a romantic comedy visual novel game that contains mild CG nudity, mild violence and bad language. Some of the topics discussed within the game contain adult themes that are not suitable for minors. What I want to suggest here would be that there's a chance that Sekai will release 18+ version here, only that Sekai was probably need to be silence about it. While practically there's no reason for that, it could be possible if we count the rumor that GIGA need to be silent until the release ready.
But if the rumor is wrong, perhaps Sekai really like to be controversial in that they'll hide the 18+ contents in Baldr Sky until the last day which to say not the most ideal announcements. As for my purpose to list several mature content warning here, it to show that only three VNs that ask us to treat the character as 18+ or older people and one of those VNs are Baldr Sky. If they really want to censor it, I think they can do it just like usual or remove the 18+ old warning here.
So for now I would say that there's a chance for Baldr Sky 18+ version, although the chance for that is still uncertain though.Edited December 9, 2019 by littleshogun. I'm a bit disappointed that they couldn't get a higher resolution for this title - 800 x 600 feels pretty outdated nowadays. But from what I've heard, the title wasn't easy to get ported to English, so I guess it's already a good thing they managed to get it working at all. Though I'm not sure how the title is holding up these days.
The Baldr series doesn't seem to be a big as it once were.I'm not really interested that much in the gameplay, so I hope there isn't too much of it. But getting a big budget mecha VN is kind of exciting, the last I've read was MuvLuv Alternative I think. I hope it lives up to the hype.
I'm not really interested that much in the gameplay, so I hope there isn't too much of it.From what some reviewers said, there's actually quite a lot of gameplay. Which makes me wary a bit since I kind of suck at reaction-based games. But I'm still pretty hyped considering how highly rated this is on vndb (Dive 2 used to be at #3 in the past, though it looks like it fell to #7 now). I mean, I know that ratings are often unreliable, but I noticed that if a game got into top 20, then I can safely say that there's at least some reason that made it so popular. Does this officially make Baldr Sky the most expensive VN on Steam? I can't remember seeing any others with a price point this high.I normally wouldn't mind paying an amount like this, considering how many hours of entertainment we're talking about, but the fact that they've actively gone out of their way to remove content from the game to make it an all ages release really doesn't sit well with me, especially since there aren't any details about exactly what has been done. I wouldn't be surprised if they've removed or altered a whole bunch of non-explicit stuff too just because they deemed it too 'risky'.
Does this officially make Baldr Sky the most expensive VN on Steam? I can't remember seeing any others with a price point this high.is 59,99 $/€ on Steam so there is that. I mean $50 definitely looks a bit pricey compared to the usual prices but to be fair it is two VNs in one package. In Japan Dive 1 and 2 where separate games, so $25 for a really long VN (100h+ for both together) doesn't seem unfair. The cut content is another topic altogether, but I think there is still chance that we get a 18+ patch maybe in a unofficial capacity, so I wouldn't rule it out completely yet.Oh just read that tweet.
Apparently GIGA wanted to sell the game for $75.Wow, that's pretty crazy. It would actually be interesting to see how much a price like that would affect their sales. They'll probably make a bigger profit with their current price point, although I'm sure plenty of potential buyers are put off by that as well, thinking it's too much.
Judging by complaints I've seen, a lot of people seem to be averse to paying more than 30-or-so for a VN, no matter how long or good it is. Meanwhile, many of those people probably don't have any issues with spending the same amount for a couple of movies at the cinema, which is kinda weird to me. The way I see it, if I have fun, I don't mind paying for it, as long as the price isn't completely unreasonable.
We are SHADOWWOLF, a group of dedicated fans such as yourself. After learning that the English release of Baldr Sky would cut out theadult content, we organized to create a fully uncut version of the game.Though it's taken several months of translation and hard work from ourmembers, we've created a set of drop-in replacement files for gamescripts, files and images most likely to be targeted by game cuts.Once the game goes live, we will need a short period of time to verify ourpatch functions correctly with the release version of the game. Ifeverything goes to plan, we will update this post with download links. Weare hoping to have the patch live within the first 24 hours after the gameis released. Wow, that's pretty crazy. It would actually be interesting to see how much a price like that would affect their sales.

The way I see it, if I have fun, I don't mind paying for it, as long as the price isn't completely unreasonable. At first glance I was a bit taken back by the price tag, but honestly that isn't fair. I personally like that they put both games out together, since I would otherwise wait for the second game to come before even starting Dive 1, but with both games bundled together there is really not much room to make them cheaper.
$25 per game doesn't seem unfair to me, but I don't know how many people will think about that after the first shock. And as you said it's not like people don't spend $50 on other forms of entertainment. Other games, movies, microtransactions, gacha and so on.But together with uncertainty regarding cut content I am worried that Baldr Sky will get ignored by a lot of people, and I guess the VN community has changed in the last years. My impression is that Baldr Sky was much more hyped a few years ago.
I guess one point is that announcing a VN and than having it not release for years kills the excitement. It becomes kind of old news by then. And there is more competition than before. On the same day and release. That is also splintering the already small audience further.
I find it so fascinating how big of a difference there is between prices of VNs in the west and here in Japan. 7000-9000 yen for a new game is completely normal here, (so between 70-80usd). In fact, you don't really see them go much cheaper. Usually 'older' games are dropped down to 5000-6000 yen.
(45-55usd) If you want to buy a big game like Baldr Sky for less than that in Japan, you'll have to wait for some massive sale, and even then you might be out of luck. The fact that people even find 30usd to be fairly pricy for a standard VN is just crazy to me. Over here 2500-3500 yen is only really standard for shorter titles, like 2-10 hour nukige and stuff like that. There is of course production costs and such to consider for Japanese releases that western ones usually don't need to factor in, but between license costs, translation, editing, programming and everything in between, western releases are far from cheap to make, so it's honestly amazing a profit can be made at these prices. Assuming we're talking digital. There's always second-hand games, which are a bit cheaper.
Most people, myself included, usually go for those, as second-hand is basically good as new in Japan. But even those won't be that much cheaper, unless there's actual damage to the box etc, which is rare.

So, a couple of weeks ago I finished Baldr Sky, I did my own review, and despite not saying Baldr Sky doesn't deserve your time or it's a bad game, I got quite visceral opinions.I felt like AVGN in Majora's Mask chapter. Why? Because I didn't like it as much as everyone who sung greatness about it, I didn't consider it 'kamige' so my opinion was to be discarded as another 'silly westards opinions'Anyway, that thing left me a bit drowned, since honestly I wanted to love Baldr Sky as much as everyone seems to do. I went to think about why I didn't enjoy it as much, and I think I finally got my answer:First of all I will give some bumps about what was my experience with the game, for the sake of better understanding of my points.First, I will repeat it: I do think Baldr Sky it's a great game and I don't regret at all having played it. And ofc I will suggest everyone to try it.It's just that, it baffles me how some great titles with similar themes and ways are called absolute mess and so. Some of those, I consider it held better than Baldr Sky.Dive 1 was a really pleasant ride, Rain route suffered a bit of 'First Route Syndrome' and I think Nanoha as heroine, does her job but lacks a lot as character. Chinatsu route, if you can forget how it tries to force you to read the common again, it's a great final route for Dive 1.

Of course not everything was so great, I do think most of Good endings are really forced to be happy ends ( Agent bullshit in Nanoha finale was simply stupid, but given Agent was my main gripe from Dive 1, it's simply one more.)On the other hand, I fell in love with the gameplay really hard. As a Fighting Game lover, I found another hell to pour infinite hours. If I could find a way to record all the combo setups I did, I would try to make some combo movie. Seriously, that's the one thing I can nod with those who sold the game as 'having one of the best mecha combat there' I agree 100%.Thus, I started Dive 2.Aki route was quite enjoyable, however it started to add some bits which I thought 'dangerous' (Kou's simulacra, Seira and her games with worlds, which added a lot of weight to Dominion's crap) Basically, it gave too many points to the theory I started to gather at Dive and while playing Aki. A theory which I DIDN'T WANT TO HAPPEN. Also, it was quite weird since Makoto and Sora were next, and unlike past ones, in Aki there wasn't a lot of build for next heroine. And then Reminiscence happened.Remni felt like dunno, forgetting about the subversion which they tried, and failed in my opinion.

Like they forgot to tell you about the two sisters and, then they had to rush for you to care about them and like her routes. But for me again, it failed in all senses. ( The feedback thing felt a really cheap way to rush what could have been a good romance, but in the end it felt like Kou falling for Sora because plot needs it was real.
Kuu was a Mc Guffin for Sora and that's that.)The new bits didn't feel like paid enough repeating all the flashbacks again. You see, I get the point, but the point is really garbo when you are at the endgame, you want to see what comes next but you are thrown into another setting to piece some required parts. That and how unforgivable is the gameplay nerf, it was stupid easy, and the only difficulty was to figure out you couldn't do any combo with such shitty skills, the game wanted you to cheese with long range to win. Great, simply great.Honestly, I have to thank Survival mode, it was probably the best reason why I decided to continue, Remni simply killed all of my hopes for everything.Despite that, Makoto route turned to be good. It had probably the worst romance I have ever seen in a VN, but otherwise, good shit. The challenge in gameplay was quite high too, so I enjoyed a lot of fights. So, Sora's route was remaining. Were my hopes really high?
Not really, the theory was almost complete but hey, maybe it could change enough to make me think otherwise? But then, the first chapters were simply HORRIBLE.Why it felt so harem-ish? Why Navi-kuuwas all the time suggesting me to court all the heroines and fuck them? Why Kou was back to his 16 years old again with horny issues? Why suddenly the reward for beating a battle was a typical heroines get clothes stripped instead of a Force Crash?
To me, it was like the writer mistook the script and pasted one from a nukige he was writing at the same time. Because most of that felt at best, for a fan-disk, not for the finale of your epic VN.Not the best start for the so mentioned the best route and, one of the best true ends of VN's.Luckily for me, that changed and the real plot started. However, as I feared, my theory was in the true.
(Why I didn't want to happen you must wonder? Well, to me that it felt really cheap and out of site. It didn't feel at all like the Baldr Sky which I started, it felt like another game with another setting. While you could say there are a lot of leads, there is not enough building into it, which made it feel out of nowhere and just a really convenient way to make Kou and Sora reunite and make you care about Sora, which now was bearing with all the plot on her, despite not being the same Sora which we were presented at first, since it's another world.
Or the Singularity which works as parallel world creator.) And this is rich, because there are some stories which I love that pulled the same card and I praised it, basically because I feel it was treated way better, or they were playing with those points since the beginning.Yet, the route was cool, the final chapter was amazing and I enjoyed the fights to the fullest, I look forward to OHKO'ing the final boss. So, in the end the game redeemed a bit itself, but it was a way less enjoyable experience than Dive 1. A bittersweet ending for my experience with Baldr Sky.I loved a lot of things, especially most of the cast and the setting, which is by far one of the best which I read in VN's. However, the story to me was not on par with it at all, specially when it simply sacrifices that setting for the sake of the true end. (and yeah, I did the epilogue too)And from there, I started thinking what was that which didn't make it for me.
And it was quite easy to find.Basically, while the setting is rich and detailed. The scenario Pro AI vs Anti AI is not fair at all since the writing is biased af towards Pro AI.
I don't like that, I like being on a neutral point and decide myself which site is the one I should support, not the story to lead me into one way. The ones which were on the Anti AI side were a mixed bag, some were ridiculous, and then there was some interesting ones but given they had to be shown as the ones in the wrong, they were written really plain. And it's not only that, when it comes to AI, a lot of characters seem to conveniently forget events and just nod ( How forget Aki being party hard when Kou announces he and Sora started a relationship, but she knows about the feedback so, she should be worried. Yet, instead she is celebrating like the others)The true end opened a fascinating point, when Kou started to fear he was being a puppet in the AI hands to save Sora and thus his feelings and such were implanted into him. But then Eve appears, says she did all in good faith, shows some info and Kou believes it. And then says some cheesy words to Sora about how they were fated (COSMIC TRUTH) and thus all ends good.
And that's where lies my biggest urge against Baldr, it doesn't give you themes to think about, it gives answers, a lot of them OBJECTIVE TRUTHS according to the game, but you cannot defy it cause we have no way to proof otherwise. No matter if those truths are well-thought or not, I think it's way more interesting to leave things up to the reader, for him/her to think about it after finishing the story. But that didn't happen to me cause all was answered and given meaning. For me, it was way more interesting to leave Kou not knowing about the AI intentions or if he was being tricked or not and try to come with his own answers. I loved the game almost unreservedly. But it certainly wasn't perfect and there's some substantial issues, which in my case were not substantial enough to prevent me from enjoying it as much as I did.I enjoyed most of the characters.
Noi and Gilbert were pretty terrible though; both are one dimensional and many of the revelations about Noi in Sora's route just feel tacked on and pointless. Her hypersexualisation is tacky too, especially when she's making sexual advances in the final desperate assault where everybody is dying. I like Gilbert's sadism and megalomania, and the voice actor's performance really sells it. But I hate that's all there is to him. I did enjoy his final moment though being the Shinji Ikari of this Evangelion-like. Nanoha's is likeable, but her inclusion in the story felt superfluous. You could remove her, all the stuff about nanoflowers and her parents and nothing would change the overall story.
The most interesting thing about her is that she lives in the slums, but I don't think the story does much with that. There's some parts of the setting that for me defied belief, stretching its credibility. In particular, how nobody seems to have the slightest problem that all the second gens are signing up for internet that has always on spyware reading their minds, uploading their every thought to an unaccountable AI owned by a private business that has a monopoly on the technology. The fact that this wasn't being addressed made me think early on that the story would be about how that data gets exploited, but it was just never addressed. Some important events don't seem credible, even with what's presented to us. When Kou's teacher comes to him and asks him to swallow a pill and he takes it without a word, I really couldn't get my head around how the writer expected that to seem like a believable situation. There's some unresolved parts of the story that are acknowledged and glossed over, like the singularities and the mechanism by which feedback occurs.
Despite exploiting them to build plot developments with, they're never in themselves explained.I dislike that the whole anti-AI/pro-AI conflict never really seems to go anywhere. Early on it it's presented as morally ambiguous, but by the end the conflict is forgotten about, and nothing about the endings really build on this moral dilemma.
It doesn't help that the anti-AI cast aren't in the least bit articulate with presenting their cases, and it feels like largely the game presents them as old fogies who just need to get with the times and stop being scared about AI boogeymen. And the other issue is the game's bugs. It crashes a fair bit, and it's the reason why I don't have much motivation to play survival given a crash means having to restart from the beginning. That seems like a lot of issues I had with a game I loved. But if I had to sum up all my issues with my other favourite games, I could make a list like this for them too. They stand out because the other parts around it are exceptional. Here's the most glaring example of what I mean.Basically, it gave too many points to the theory I started to gather at Dive and while playing Aki.
A theory which I DIDN'T WANT TO HAPPEN.The parallel world thing is the backbone of Baldr Sky's overarching story. Somehow, you needed more than just Rain's route to be completely certain that there's some multiversal shit going on, and somehow, you developed an extremely negative outlook towards the prospect by as early as Aki's route.
Putting aside my honest amazement with the mental contortionism needed to achieve something like this, the fact of the matter is that there's no way the rest of the game can stand under your scrutiny when you have an issue with something so fundamental to it.It's like complaining that your apple isn't crunchy enough without realizing that you're eating an orange.
